The first question is what for
Before opening a 3D tool, define what the person should understand or do. A scene can explain a product, allow material exploration, or become a brand signature. If it serves no function, it competes with the message.
One experience, multiple capabilities
The same site can offer motion on a powerful device and a static composition on another. Content, links, and the main call to action must continue working even if WebGL is unavailable. The fallback is part of the design.
Speed also communicates
Reserve space for visuals, defer what is not visible, and limit render resolution. Pausing an off-screen scene helps reduce unnecessary work. Visual decisions must be evaluated on real devices.
Let the user decide
Offer a visible pause, respect reduced motion preferences, and avoid interfering with scrolling. The best effect is the one that accompanies an experience that was already clear.
